Right - I have a Mac mini running Lion, with 4 disks:
1. Internal system disk
2. The households main data drive
3. A nightly copy of (2)
4. A big disk for Time Machine
We have a nanny starting in a week & I want to secure most of the folders on (2) so that she can only see 1 folder, with the rest hidden. This will allow us to share files, without being able to see our bank statements etc
I'm having trouble finding any information on how to do this & I'm a teensy bit wary of stuffing up & making the main data drive completely inaccessible ..
If I create a new folder at the root of this drive, it seems to have the following permissions:
Me - read & write
staff - read only
everyone - read only
I'm in the admins group & I have created a new group called Visitors, & the nanny is a member of that. I'm thinking I need to change permissions to:
Admins - read & write
Then select the gear icon & choose 'Apply to enclosed items'
Thoughts?
Will I stuff anything by removing 'staff' & 'everyone' from this folder?
I can set them to 'no access, but I assume setting 'everyone' to 'no access' will deny access to everyone - admins included (i.e. the Deny takes precedence over 'Read & Write'?)
Any help gratefully appreciated - I've never really got to grips with Mac permissions ...
