Hi, as the title really. I have a Dyson smart air purifier, by default it connects to and works with Alexa fine. I didn't need to set anything up apart from installing the Alexa skill etc. I can control every function with my voice.

I was trying to get it to work with Home Kit, but I've seen that you need to use Siri Shortcuts. I tried this but I can't get things like fan speed to work etc? It seems very complicated. Has anyone got a Dyson fan working with Hone Kit? Or how do I set up the speed controls in Home Kit?

Siri Shortcuts isn't to be confused with HomeKit. It's not a HomeKit compatible device, so you won't be able to control it through HomeKit. It can be controlled through Siri Shortcuts, but you'll need to create a shortcut for every setting/configuration you want. This is done through the Dyson app.

The shortcuts are more of a configuration of settings that you want it to set on the fan. For example, one shortcut could be to set fan speed to three, oscillation on, night mode off. Another shortcut could be to set fan speed to auto, oscillation off, and night mode on.

You won't be able to control the settings individually like you can with Alexa or Google Home. You can't simply just change the fan speed and leave the other settings as is. It'll also change the oscillation and other settings if the shortcut is set differently than what the fan is currently doing. To get around that, you would need something like a "fan speed three oscillation off" shortcut and a "fan speed three oscillation on" shortcut, and have Siri run the appropriate shortcut you want.

I just have a few Siri shortcuts created using my favorite/most commonly used settings.

Hmm i understand. That’s a shame. Would have been nice to set it up in Siri so it’s the same.

Way too complicated for me, but I have looked and seen there are alternatives to this but a bit simpler. I'll take a look thanks.

Dont sell yourself short!

I know github projects can sometimes feel intimidating, but its really not too daunting. Lots of Youtube videos to help you step by step.

Short version is install homebridge by any means: https://homebridge.io/

once its installed you login to a web interface, scan the qr code into homekit to pair homebridge. Then you search the addons within the UI to install the above Dyson addon. You follow the setup instructions for the integration, and thats it! Now all control is done via homekit like a native accessory.

Wayyyyyy easier than HomeAssistant.
