need help setting up monitor

so i just got the $1300 macbook and i am trying to configure it with my 24'' monitor. i have the dvi adapter but i cant figure out how to use the monitor as my main display. i dont want the display on the macbook at all. anyone know how to configure this?

in Display preferences drag the white bar (menu bar) to the bigger screen. or use Clamshell Mode (MacBook closed) by plugging in the Mag Safe power cord and a keyboard and shut the lid to sleep and then wake it up by tapping the keyboard.

You're probably going to set up the external display to MIRROR the notebook display not to extend the desktop.
Also take a look at http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24722 because if you open up the notebook while its still connected to the external display, that may occur.

ok but when i close it the computer goes into sleep mode. i get the dock and stuff on my 24'' but it is still extended to the laptop display

make sure the MacBook has gone to sleep (wait till fans shut off) then wake it up.

got it. thanks guys. really helped me out. the problem was is that i had my mouse/keyboard usb plugged into a usb hub(on the monitor). plugged it into the computer and works fine. gracias

Edit: actually i just wasnt patient enough for it to come back on. plugged into the hub and works fine.. thanks
