So far not at all satisfying with camera - either I am holding it wrong(!) or should not expect better than this from iphone 4 camera

Two photos - one with flash and one without - I was hoping better results

Take the plastic baking off. It covers the camera. I did the same thing when I first got mine.

I can tell it's on from the same blue coloring reflecting off of the plastic.

Also, make sure you focus EVERY picture. It should alleviate the static and take a much nicer picture.

Make sure it's focused (you'll see a box on where its focusing and can tap on where you want it to focus).

Also the front facing camera isn't very good for photos.

1. In low light you will get more noise.
2. Is the camera in a case? It looks like the flash is flaring into the lens and washing out your second photo.
3. You did take the plastic off, right?
4. Try some photos outside or with more light.
