I'm wondering if you guys can help me. I have an old 2.4ghz 15" white macbook that I am selling on craigslist. I have a buyer that wants to pick up the macbook tomorrow. I want to clean it up so all my data is off. Problem is I no longer have the disks for a factory reset, and even if I did my cd drive has failed on the macbook anyway. What would be the best way to clean the macbook so they have a fresh macbook that is no cluttered with my data and I dont have any personal info floating around on the macbook? Any suggestions????

Backup your stuff.
Then: System Prefs > Accounts > make a new admin user for buyer. Login to the new admin acct you just made, System Prefs > Accounts > Delete your old account and, when it asks, choose to delete user data.

Without the install disk AND having a broken optical drive really does limit your options.
