Need help transferring from old to new mac book

I have a 13" black macbook, purchased in early 2007 and cannot resist the new 13" MacBook Pro. I need it! Problem is, I have already sold this black mac and need to ship it out before I can get the new Pro. Therefore, I can't use the Migration Assistant Utility to transfer info from old to new mac. Is there any way I can save files, music, and applications on an external hard drive? Would applications be able to be transferred from this mac to the hard drive and then to my new mac pro? Any other suggestions?(iDisk is too small to hold everything)

Yes. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone to an external hard drive, then when you get the new MacBook you can clone back or use Migration Assistant to pick and choose what you want to transfer.
