My screen is fine, the brightness and color of my monitor is unchanged...but somehow last night all my file icons in the finder became faded. They look like they're washed out.

I believe it could have something to do with the .DS_store files that are suddenly all over my computer. They're in most of my folders now. I know they're related to folder and icon options, but I have no idea what to do about it, or how to get rid of them.

I read that there can be a .DS_store file issue when connecting to other servers. And for some strange reason, there is a Servers icon on my desktop right now.

Any suggestions?

I just read that this problem can arise when enabling "Show Hidden Files". But for the life of me, I can't remember where that option was, lol.

I fixed it! Apparently there is a bug in the OS when you enable hidden files. It causes all your icons to become faded.

I just went into the Terminal and found the command to disable hidden files.

At the command line type:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

(or TRUE if you want to enable hidden files)
