Hello everyone,

We have a 2007 iMac that’s just been sitting in our basement for many years. I figured I’d set it up to rip CDs, surf the internet etc.

I did a reinstall using the included 10.5 Mac OS disc.

We do have another newer iMac from 2018 that is up and running, etc. if that is needed.

I’ve been researching how to get this older Mac updated to its newest supported OS and I just can’t figure it out. It was updated before I did a factory reset. I believe it was updated to El Capitan.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have a 2007 white intel iMac that is now "retired".

It could run "up to" OS 10.7 "Lion".
Lion has a "recovery partition" (I believe first version of OS to have it).
The 2007 CANNOT DO "internet recovery" (don't bother trying).

If you can't get Lion, you could get a "commercial release" version of the Snow Leopard (10.6) installer on DVD. MAKE SURE it's the "universal" release -- that one is needed to install on any Mac. You can find these on ebay. Apple may still even sell it.
