Yesterday, my iPhone 3gs automatically upgraded to ATT Navigator v.1.4i, on its own.

Since then, the voice command function has not worked correctly.

I have received horrible "support" from ATT and ended up in Manilla with someone who read a script and then bailed.

Here's what I know, so far:

The phone is working perfectly in all other respects. The speakers work in other programs including in the iPod function.

All of the settings are proper, save for the fact that I did not upgrade the firmware to 3.12 because my wife had so many problems with the upgrade. The people at ATT did not think this matters.

Here is the problem:

The voice commands during navigation do not come through the speakers. Well sort of.

Here's what I figured out on my own:

1. The navigation dialogue will come through headphones. So we know that it is there -- it just won't come through the speakers.

2. Here's the odd part. If I play a song from my iPod function, while I am in navigation, the voice commands will come through the speakers, over the music.

So, the variable is whether I am playing a song or not.

If no, I have to use the headphones to hear the navigation.

If yes, they will play through the speaker while the music is playing, too.
With Navigaton v. 1.4i, for the first time there is a little iPod icon on the navigation screen. Touching it brings up the iPod functions. I can't find a way to get this out of the navigation function. If I could, I would.

No one at ATT has any idea about any of this and I've gotten absolutely no help from them.

I have uninstalled the app, reset the phone, and installed a clean version of the software, 4 times -- each at their request, to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas what to do next? Yes, I know, leave ATT when Verizon gets the iPhone, but that won't help, today.

All help will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you.
