I'm not a n00b at this by any stretch of the imagination. I've jailbroken a dozen iphones with no incident. When I got my iphone4 I couldnt find an untethered jailbreak so I used a tethered jailbreak with redsn0w using firmware iPhone3,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw which has worked just fine for months.
Last night I deleted a program from cydia which rebooted my phone, and I went to my computer to boot tethered as I have done a dozen times since jailbreaking.
I have two problems.
1. My phone won't enter DFU mode. (Or maybe it has and I just can't tell since I never get past the black screen)
2. Redsn0w is no longer recognizing that 4.3.1 firmware.

Right now, my phone is chillin on the apple boot screen and flashing (or restarting) about every two minutes.

Can someone please navigate me on how to fix this? And if there is an untethered jailbreak with a different firmware that came out that I wasn't aware of in the last few months, I'd love to know about it.

Please help. I'm kinda lost without my phone.

Does iTunes not respond to it? Try to use redsn0w to get it in DFU mode then let iTunes restore it to 4.3.3. If you then want to jailbreak it then I suggest just go to jailbreakme.com

Dfu is black screen :p
Use the latest redsn0w
Download the latest 4.3.3 firmware ipsw. Put the phone in dfu as per the instructions
Restore to 4.3.3
Use latest redsn0w to jailbreak :)

Also I don prefer jailbreakme. It's still kind of buggy.

Ok, So I'm gonna give this a try, still waiting on the firmware to finish downloading. I wasn't aware that the latest version of redsn0w was available to use on windows now but I guess thats just my mistake for not keeping up to date with its compatibility.

I prefer 4.2.1 though :)

Looks like all I needed was the newest version of Redsn0w. It recognized my 4.3.1 FW and got me access to my phone again.... But in IT SAFE MODE. Luckily it was enough to be able to check my messages and VM at least. Now, I will move up to the 4.3.3 and hopefully it allows me to do an untethered JB... and possibly doesnt brick my phone. *crosses fingers, holds breath and hits the button*

Its technically impossible to brick iOS devices . Dfu FTW :p

It must be foolproof, cause I've been known to be a fool from time to time and I've never bricked one :D

I'm still heartbroken about losing all my modifications though :(

OK. So Apparently I've reached a massive snag. When I tried to restore the first time, I shift+clicked to select the ipsw that I downloaded myself. Went through all that and "device could not be restored".
So then I decided to just restore to factory settings to eliminate the headache and once again, "device could not be restored".

WTF?

Have I managed to somehow do the impossible and brick my beloved phone?

Now, No matter what I do, it just keeps going back to the itunes connect screen on my phone.

FML.

Did you download the proper build?
Do you get any particular code?

Yeah I get code 3194 which is to update iTunes... But I already have the latest version of iTunes.

I'm seriously at my wits end. I've never had so much trouble with my hacks before.

If I can't even restore to factory settings, I must be SOL.

Do this.....
Download Tiny Umbrella
In tiny umbrella go to the advanced tab and uncheck Set hosts to cydia on exit
Click apply changes. Close Tiny Umbrella, Restart PC. Now update to 4.3.3
