Need help with burning dvd w/subtitles

At work today, I burned a dvd with greek subtitles on it, but when I would play it on my MBP, or one of the dvd players we have in the store, the subtitles show, but they dont show in greek characters. I remember having this problem a whiles ago, but for the life of me I cant remember how to fix it. I was on a windows machine at work, but I am home now on my iMac, so if anyone knows what to do, please let me know.

I also tried to create an mp4 file with the subtitles via Handbrake, and I got the same screwed up subs afterward.

If you ripped with Handbrake did you select to burn the Greek subtitles in the subtitle option tab?
