Need help with changing folder permission settings!

I'm running OSX 10.4 .11, just got a new external hard drive, had a friend put a bunch of things on it from his computer and now the settings of the hard drive and folders inside are set so I can READ ONLY.

How can I change these to write aswell?

Tried using Batchmod with no success.
