I've long been an all-in-one 27" iMac user - simply because it's perfect (for me) for what I use it for, which is only editing documents and Final Cut Pro. I need to upgrade, and it's clear there won't another larger screen iMac - so I've resigned to purchase a Mac Studio or mini, which means I'll need a display.

Unfortunately the Studio Display is just too expensive - so, looking at other options. I'm not concerned at all about Gaming, streaming, or professional color reproduction - I'd just like a quality screen of the resolution I'm used to at the same size or slightly larger. However, reading reviews, it seems third party displays always require some babysitting 'because it's not Apple' and so sleep / wake doesn't work right - or I'd need a remote control .. I feel like I'm missing something here.

Suggestions in the sub 1k range ? (please and thank you)

If you were in the D.C. area I have a 1yr old Studio Display for $900…it can be done just sayin.

However, any non Apple display will suffer from compatibility issues like resolution or simple things such as volume and brightness control.
