Short version:
I need help making Leopard to see my external display as a generic instead of a specific model.
If that didn't explain anything, here's a little more detail:
I've been using my 32 in TV as an external display for my late 08 MBP and noticed that the colors were way too dark and the resolutions available were limited. On mirrored mode, it made the laptop screen shrink horizontally to match the TV resolutions. Since this sucked as a display, I unplugged it for about 2 weeks before trying it again. This time, it showed up as a generic monitor (as opposed to the more specific model it recognized it as... FLM-something) with 1/4 more resolutions available and the color and brightness matched my MBP's nicely. I unplug the TV again, and when reconnected, it goes back to the FLM-something with crappy settings. I tried calibrating colors, changing brightness on the TV, resetting PRAM, and a lot of other random things to make it look as good as it did or go back to the "generic mode," but nothing works. Is there any way to make Leopard "forget" what kind of display it is and go back to the generic settings?
This is through mini-displayport to VGA btw.
