Need help with dual monitor display for a new mini.

I have a panisonic TV running off of the hdmi port, and a dell ultrasharp running off the thunderbolt port with with a VGA adapter.

For some reason it keeps giving priority to the tv.

Thats where my desktop and folders are and the top bar across the screen.

I only want to use the tv for watching videos etc.

How can I convince the settings to put my desk top, folders and everything else on the ultra sharp?

After googleing for answers I found you can drag the top white bar from one screen to another screen on the arrangement screen in system preferences.

All is right with the world for now.
