Need help with Elements 6 installation

I purchased Photoshop Elements 6 (didn't need the new version - I thought) and tried to install it on my Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. It doesn't want to install. I read the fine print and it said it would work with OS through 10.5.2 so stupid me, thought that it should be upward compatible and that the documentation had simply been printed before 10.6.2. So ... is there any work-around that would enable me to install Elements 6 or did I just blow $60?
