New to Macrumors, but you guys look great so here goes.

My laptop got stolen so I was out a computer. I found this emac on the street, but none of the usb ports work. I cracked it open, thinking there might be an obviously unplugged component, but now I'm over my head. Help?

hey, very sorry about your stolen computer, but its nice that you so conveniently found this emac, no? lol, anyway, I do not have any first person experience with disassembly of an emac, although I have taken apart a few g3 imacs in my day (which I don't think would really help you), here is an online guide for replacing the optical drive, which requires probably more disassembly than you've done, so it should help you get things straight:

and here are some more disassembly pics:

Hope these help!

Check the voltage on the pram battery.

The USB ports might come back, since they can shut down if drawing too much from them and might start working again.

Don't know how to reset them though, or even if it is a HW or SW thing.

hard to try all the HW reset methods, without a keyboard.

hoorah

I had cracked her open, did nothing, put it back together...and it worked! So I'm reinstalling and now I have a 2 year old computer. Isn't waste great?
