Need help with exporting contacts on water damaged iPhone 3G

A friend dropped her iphone in the sink, and she never synced her contacts. The phone still boots up and is able to be detected by the PC and iTunes. Unfortunately, itunes wants to reset the iPhone and I don't have the option to sync or pull the contacts first. Does anyone know of a way to pull the contacts off of the phone? Is there a iphone file browser for Windows or Mac that can retrieve the contacts from the phone? Any help with this is greatly appreciated
