need help with external blu ray burner

I have an Asus external burner, and when I put in a blank blu ray, it keep ejecting the disc. ( on my 2020 MacBook Air)
if I do this on my older 2009 MacBook Pro it seems to work perfectly.


any idea why it would constantly eject the disc? if I put in a disc that I burned a long time ago it acts normal and I can see the contents.
