Need help with Handbrake

I've decided to burn 200+ of my DVD back-up movies onto a HDD.

Some movies i have are in foreign language.

Just wanted to know if i can hard encode subtitles into the films using hard brake ?

Yes.
In the video section there is a subtitles tab where you can select whichever subtitles you want and the option to burn them in if you so choose

One thing ive noticed is that sometimes when i convert, the file type is appearing as 'document' instead of mpeg4 in my folders even though i havnt changed any settings and just been using default...
