Need help with iTunes..

This is what I did.. I bought an external hardrive, copy itunes folder to it, then I thrashed the original on my mac. I did this because I was running out of space on my mac, so I wanted itunes to get my music from the External HD.. now I went to itunes prefrences and changed location.
I open itunes and nothing is there.

what am I doing wrong..
