this is the deal my imac burnt out so i bought a mini and a external hdd enclosure hopping that i can get my old hd back just for the pics when i when plug it in it doesnt mount to the desktop is there any thing im doing wrong please help this fellow mac head

need help with mac mini and external drive

Sounds like your external may be at issue here. I was able to pull my HDD from my PC and pop it in the enclosure an pull my pics, vids and music from it before I had to reformat it. I am assuming this is what your doing. You didn't mention what type of enclosure you were using.
i called best buy and used the mac specialist there and she pointed me to the rocket fish brand.. now when i open it (the case) it has a wire with red yellow black and 2 other colors i think thats just power . there's also a wire a lot wider, more like ribbon i think that needs to be pluged in but no where to plug it
