I downloaded iOS5 gold master a while back when it first came out, but I didn't have the latest iTunes beta so when I tried to update the phone I ran into issues and had to restore back to the previous version. Now I've got the latest official iTunes version installed, but I can't download the official update. Here's the deal.
I just recently moved and am currently staying in an extended stay hotel. They have a wifi connection (no wired ethernet in the rooms.... bummer), but it's REAL slow. In addition, I've discovered that they apparently monitor how much bandwidth you use. Tonight, after trying to download iOS5 for the third day in a row my Internet connection suddenly just stopped on my Mac Mini. My Air was working fine. After investigation and getting the hotel's network support on the phone I confirmed they did block the connection to my Mini (mac address I assume) because of excessive bandwidth usage and likely other "residents" complaining about slow speeds. In hindsight it's a miracle I was able to download 10.7.2 after hours and hours and hours of downloading.
So, my question is, do I update my iPhone 4 to iOS5 using the gold master that I still have since I now have a full version of the latest iTunes? Is that too risky and am better off somewhere finding a wifi connection that I actually can use to download a 700+ meg file? Go to an Apple Store and visit the genius bar to have them perform the update? I'm really tempted to try the gold master again, but last time it didn't work I had to re-download the last version of iOS, which I can't do now if I have to because of my bandwidth limitations.
Thanks in advance!
