Need help with video players

this has got to be the dumbest problem ever. I have vlc on my imac G3 as my primary video player, and i updated from quicktime 6 to 7, and now when i go to play videos in vlc i get audio but no video and a message saying quicktime doesnt have any of the appropriate chroma. i have tried everything: reinstalling VLC, downgradeing back to QT 6 (which it wont for some dumb reason). its a night mare!

In Finder, select a video file, and go to File -> Get Info -> Open with: -> VLC -> Change All
