Need helping preserving Iphone 4 baseband?

Hi there,

I have an Unlock Iphone 4 running 01.59.00 with 4.0.1. I need to upgrade the firmware to either 4.1 or something higher WHILE keeping 01.59.00.

Now here's my question:

Is this possible, and if so how?
Also, if I do this successfully, will UltraSnow work with firmware 4.1 AND 01.59.00 baseband?

I MUST have this phone unlocked.


Please let me know what I should do.

So, 4.3 on 01.59.00 can work properly with Ultrasn0w?

So correct me if I'm wrong, to do this whole process successfully, I need to:
1) Use Pwnage tool to preserve baseband and then use it to make a custom 4.3.3 FW?

Please refer to Applejuiced's post #2.

You use Pwnage tool to create a customs 4.3.3 in order to preserve the baseband, then restore to that jaibreak firmware.

once you've done, then install Ultrasn0w 1.2.2 from Cydia.

It looks like there's still an issue with VVM and MMS. Supposedly, taking the SIM out and reinserting it will fix that, but I haven't personally tried it.

This is exactly the reason I am being cautious with this and asking several questions....

btw, which pwnagetool do I download, there are several?

Good that you're asking questions. Most newbies upgrade their iOS first, then have the hissy fit when they can't unlock. Then they blame the dev team for an easily avoidable situation.
If you need pwnage for the latest iOS, the best source is the dev team's site. They have a link to the bit torrent d/l. Otherwise, check out iclarified for older versions.

I can just picture it now. The TSA is waving the paperclip in my face as they ask, "What's this for?"
Maybe I can convince them I use it to fight terrorists? Because nobody's going to believe I use it to open my sim tray. :rolleyes:

Alright, I did this successfully on my Iphone 4. It is now running a custom 4.3.3 on 01.59.00 and running Ultrasn0w!

I got one of those sim ejectors that go in the headphone hole just for that.
