Caitlin McGarry at Tom’s Hardware has a small wrist and is hesitating because of the size. That said, on the app the 40mm doesn’t look that much larger than my 38mm. Why not take advantage of the return policy and give it a shot?

I have small wrist too and upgraded to 42mm aluminum last year and love it. It doesn’t feel big at all. I I did need some time to get used to it since it’s heavier than the 38mm aluminum.

I would, however but planning on trading in my S3 to offset the cost of the S4. So if I were to return the S4, I’d be without a watch.

Why not wait until they have them in store and try one on for size?

Don’t live close to an Apple store. Wish I did, because it’d make things so much easier. Have to do everything by mail in.

Have a look at the Hodinkee hands-on preview, they comment about the increase in case size being offset by the reduced thickness so it doesn't wear too big.
Most notably, the new sizes are outstanding. I was a little worried that 40mm and 44mm would push the Apple Watch into too big territory, but the opposite is true. The watches are significantly thinner (I'm still working to find out by exactly how much) and you notice it the moment you strap one on. The reduced size of the bubble for the sensors is responsible for a lot of this, which makes the entire package sit lower to the wrist, so you don't get that space between the edges of the Watch and your wrist. The 44mm is on the large side, and it does look bigger than the 42mm on the wrist, but from a comfort standpoint I don't see anyone complaining.

You can probably get more on eBay than Apple’s trade-in value for the S3.

Saw this posted on twitter. Gives a good idea for comparison.

You can see how the case got wider and taller, but the corners still kind of line up.

Nope, 38mm S3. After looking at pictures of the S4 on an actual wrist though, I think the thinness of it looks really good.

If that's a 38mm then I think the 40mm would potentially look too big for you. There is opinion on what looks good and bad though, some prefer the smaller watch size even on larger wrists, and vice versa. Generally speaking though, I think the 40mm may look a little big, but certainty not huge or anything, so probably doable. Def try in store

Sadly there is no store around me to try. I just went ahead and bought it since there doesn’t seem that big of a difference

Got it, yeah it's hard to say from a single picture but I would expect less of a size difference in reality than any assumptions from the forum here. No harm buying and returning if it doesn't work out, no other choice really.

If you have a small wrist... you want the 40 and not the 44. many of the 44 bands may not fit you. when they first came out, i wanted the 40... but when i went to the store to try them on i couldn't get the 40 sport bands small enough to wear on my wrist... so the 30 it was (which is now going to be the 40).

Yep definitely grabbed the 40. 44 will be too humongous on me.
