I'm struggling with which two watches to buy for me and my lady.

While I was working out with her today it occurred to me that it would be fun to work out together with the apple watch.
It seemed like the stainless steel, particularly in 38mm is quite feminine and as such might look good on a lady.
The lady I'm planning to give this to already has a bunch of watches (a breguet, a Chanel j12, a few cartiers and a few beater gshocks) so I'm not sure how often she will wear the apple watch.
Also she's not much of a gadget lover.

However I thought that perhaps with the apple watch she would carry it on most daily occasions just as she does with the iPhone's.

I'm thinking about getting myself a space grey apple watch probably 42 although 38 is possible and getting her either the SS or silver in 38.

Do ladies like their stainless steel for working out?
Is it too heavy?
Do ladies find silver aluminum cheap looking for daily use?

Although this is super cheesy, I was thinking I could also gold plate the stainless steel too, if it's possible to restore to original condition.

Which should I buy for my lady?

If she already has a few watches, and is not a gadget person, you might want to get yourself an Apple watch and see if she has any interest. Or <gasp!> ask her up front if she is familiar with them and wants one.

She has said she wants one, but only mildly interested.
I'm not sure if she will enjoy the aluminum so I'm wondering if ladies like aluminum much or they much prefer the stainless steel.

I have the silver aluminum and was going to purchase the SS but decided I have several very nice dress watches and I liked the light weight of the Sports watch.

Lighter weight convinced me to get the sport watch. I knew I was going to want the sport band, it's comfortable and the band I wanted for working out. At the moment the blue band is the only one I have, but will be buying the ML for dressier occasions or when I don't want to be so obvious. I can't tell you how many people spot that bright blue band and ask me how I like the watch.

My girlfriend loves her Sport and doesn't like the SS. I asked her why and she said that she didn't know why - not much help :)

Can't you take her to your local Apple Store so she can try them on and make the decision herself?

Yeah I will do that but it's hard to tell which she will actually like.

FWIW, my wife didn't even blink on the 38 vs. 42mm, she chose the latter - she digs on the oversized look, thought the larger display would be better, and even thought the option for us to swap bands would be cool (which we've done quite a few times).

As far as models, we stuck with the sport, we use them for workouts and casual wear, not to mention minimizing the cost with a first gen product that we had no idea would click with us. To be honest, I also love the SG finish and how sport bands connect (the way the band flares at the attachment point gives the watch a more tapered look).

I'm so happy with my SS 38mm with Milanese Loop. I wear it every day, and work out in it. It's breathable and has a nice comfortable weight to it.

It might depend on the age of the woman. I am past 60, petite size and went for the 38mm just because I am used to wearing smaller watches. But I have been noticing women in the younger generations wear large watches. I think I might even feel comfortable with the larger size. Even very petite women are wearing large watches. So just judge by what she wears now.

I don't think the stainless steel is too heavy, and I much prefer shiny steel to aluminum in jewelry. I like gold but silver is nice too.

Friends my age and older have asked me about the watch. Even ones that are not gadget people. So far one is getting the sport because it is cheaper and one is getting the ss because she likes shiny. Both are getting the smaller size, both of these friend are of the petite size also.

For workouts and everyday wear, I love the sport band, I have the green, pink and blue and change them to match my workout clothing. So you might want to think about the colors she likes to wear.

My husband and I have a lot of fun working out together with the watch. We compare statistics at the end of the day and challenge each other to improve our workouts. It is also fun to send digital touch messages to each other.

By her the watch SHE would like, not what strangers on the internet think she would like, or what some non-existent idea of woman would like.

Seriously guys, get to know the females you live/sleep/share your lives with. This question has come up a few times here. All women are not the same, and don't have the same preferences. There is no "women like this and dudes like that" thing. It doesn't exist.

Lol.
It's true.
I got the idea to ask around because she was not sure when I asked and she said she is "okay" with the cheaper sport because she's not sure about the apple watch as its a new category of devices.

I have a 38 sport as does my husband. Personally i thought the 42 looked too big on me. I chose the sport because i preffered it over the others - money wasnt an object (ok may not quite the luxury celeb ones lol)

Then there's your answer. If you think she'd really like the SS (because you know her and that's what you know about her) then get her the SS. Otherwise get her the sport and save the receipts, and let her know that she's got two weeks to return it if she really wants the SS.

Well, a lot of people seem to feel that the Sport is cheap-looking, but I personally don't think so. It's less expensive, sure, but it looks good. It really depends on what kind of clothing she likes to wear, and her sense of style. So if she's okay with it, it should be good. And like the poster above said, if she decides she wants the SS after all, she has two weeks to return it and upgrade.

You also have to take into account her sense of economy. If she's the kind of person who hates wasting money on things she doesn't use/need, she may feel guilty about having the more expensive watch, even as a gift. Again, you need to think about what kind of person she is.

I bought a 38mm Sport w/ white band for my wife and she loves it.

I bought my non gadget loving wife a 38 SS with a midnight blue modern buckle. She loves it. We recently went to the Apple Store and she tried on the pink modern buckle, and that looked really good too. I wish they were available, I would buy it for her in a second.

PS, she has a Rolex and she said she wasn't going to stop wearing the Rolex when I first mentioned the apple watch. I gave her the apple Watch about a month ago and she's hardly worn the Rolex since.

I have the 38mm SS with modern buckle which I think is the most feminine and dressy combo and find it very comfortable to wear. I switch to a sports band when working out, but I prefer the modern buckle for all other occasions. I do agree with the others who suggested letting your lady try on the watches at the Apple store and pick the one she likes best. It is a personal choice and no one else can make that decision for her. To be honest, it doesn't sound like she is really interested in the Apple watch and maybe a different gift item would be in order.
