Hi - Just had a rerun of the previous problem (crashes, gives panic report) tho with a different message now.

My 27" iMac from late 2015 (a refurb I bought early 2017, so AppleCare expired a month ago) suddenly locked up and restarted - this time while I was trying to place an order. Still on Mojave because of 32-bit apps. Is it obvious what the problem is here? What should I be doing about it? I'm not too techie. Thanks AGAIN for any help or direction!

Here's the new report:

Well in my experience if you were to ring Apple Support they would tell you to back up via say Time Machine and reinstall your Operating System. This is just a cheap fix solution when the consultant has no idea where to start with the problem and assumes it is software related. Sometimes it works.
What have you tried to do to fix this?
Have you run Disk Utility First Aid on the HD?

From a mechanical point of view there are 3 reasons an iMac might shut down and reboot for no apparent reason. Power surges on the circuit you are using, overheating or a failing power supply.

If you dont think its any of these then I would suggest a full backup if possible then try reinstalling the OS from the Recovery Partition.

Hi - Thank you for your advice! I posted in this subform on Saturday at 8:48 PM when this was happening but with a different report.

Someone then recommended I go to Terminal and "Try to rebuild the kext cache with Code: sudo kextcache -I / in " which I did. It seemed fine until this evening when it shut down again, and so I posted the above report.

I do have the computer plugged into a power surge protector. I don't know how I'd tell about the other two possibilities?

I will run Disk Utility First Aid right now - and hopefully can report back good news! Thank you!

Mojave brought me a crash-on-sleep issue (a lot of people got it at the same time) - is sleep involved at all? It might only be affecting Mini 8s.

Thanks! It did crash one more time that I've seen after doing the above steps. It probably happened sometimes during the sleep mode, but it's also happened right while I was typing. It's baffling! I unplugged my 32-bit Dymo Labelwriter 400 Turbo but the app is still there - apparently no 64-bit version available. So if I upgrade, it's unusable, AFAIK. So, guess I'll see what happens over the next few days.

One label writer isn't so bad compared to the entire Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office!

LaunchControl is an excellent utility for shutting off various startup programs that might be the problem. I think I used MacPilot to find extensions, but all sorts of utilities find them for you, then you may have to remove or move them using Terminal.

I _believe_ I found the problem — one particular MacAlly iKey keyboard, iMac-style (clear case) - it's obviously old. It took me forever to get to that point, especially because Apple says to leave the mouse and keyboard in while testing. Having a spare keyboard helps. I can't type on Apple keyboards, the keys don't move enough - my first typewriter was a 1956 Royal HH (HHE, but E just means Elite—small type).

Anyway, I might have solved the problem wiht a keyboard swap.
