New mac user here and I have connected to my windows drives on my network but they go away when i shutdown my powerbook or am away from the network is there a way to make them permanent at least on my desktop? I know I cant connect to them if im not in the network but still

:confused: i think what you are asking for is an alias (shortcut in the windows world), so connect to your shared drive, then right click or 'ctrl + click' on the mounted drive and select make alias.

you can put the alias on the desktop, or in your home folder, or wherever. double click to re-mount the drive if you have saved the username and password in your keychain (autocomplete in windows).
