hey guys, here is a diagram of how i have my networking setup in my house:
what i need to know if it is possible to add a Wireless Repeater to my Gigabit switch in my room so i can have some wifi goodness in my room for my iPhone and MacBook. Since my Router (TP-Link W8960N) is 30m away from my room (and has to go through multiple walls) I need the repeated signal because my iPhone 4 keep dropping wifi connection in my room and it is a huge problem for me as when i go to bed and put my phone on charge and iOS 5 tries to wireless sync to my iMac (which is 10ft away in my room on the wired network) and drops signal and ruins the sync, resulting in this when i connect my phone to the iMac via USB: http://i.imgur.com/yIPO7.png
Now i've done some research and from what i could find, to setup a wireless repeater you need to physically connect the repeater to the router. now i was hoping to bypass this step by connecting the repeater to the gigabit switch in my room. Would this work? or would i have to run another cable directly from the router itself to the repeater?
Also, since the iMac is using ethernet to connect to the net, i was wondering if i could somehow configure the iMac's built in wifi so it repeats the wireless signal in my room (thus eliminating the need to buy a repeater). I've tried this already in the Settings tab under Internet Sharing, it works, but it creates its own wifi network. Is there a way i can get it to repeat the already existing wifi?
Thanks in Advance
P.S. relocating the router is out of the question as it is closest to the only telephone socket in the house. I have also tried the 'windsurfer' foil thing that you cut out and place on the router antennae, still to no avail.
