Hi,

I'm looking for some suggestions for my particular problem.

Due to the addition of a 3rd child, our 2nd floor office had to be moved to the basement. Therefore, the Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual-Band) had to go down to the basement. We have several wireless users in the house and all users got very good signals, even on the 2nd floor. However, with the recent addition of an iPad2, we are having issues with signal strength and overall speeds.

For the record, I have the 2.4Ghz band running 11a/b/g/n and the 5Ghz band running n-only. The iPad receives a weak signal on the second floor using either band. Our Macbook has no issues on the 2.4 band.

Anyways, it sounds like I need to extend my network.

My thinking right now is to get a new Airport Express and run an ethernet line from the Extreme up to the 2nd floor bedroom. The Express would get the network from the ethernet line and broadcast the network upstairs.

We have a phone line that is run to the upstairs bedroom. The builder used CAT5E and it's a home run to the basement. I'm pretty sure I could swap out the end connections at both ends pretty easily. My problem is that I have 4 phone lines in the box in the basement. I don't know which of the 4 lines is the one going upstairs. Is there a trick to determine which line is which. I have a digital voltmeter in my bag of tools. Will I need something else?

Any other ideas for doing this. I'm willing to think outside the box.
