I've got a 2009 27" iMac (very first 27" iMac run) that the SuperDrive has gone bad.

It is a 3.06GHz (Core 2 Duo).

The bad thing about this is that I hardly EVER even used the SuperDrive and it went bad and now I need it. I probably used it maybe 10 times since I got the computer in Sept/Oct 2010.

Oh, I'm fine with pulling it apart it doesn't look that bad.

I'm wanting the internal because I want it to be just like new from Apple. I looked at Amazon and it seems that I could only find SuperDrives for the Macbook & Macbook Pro. They also had some adaptors so you could replace your SuperDrive with another Hard Drive.

I'm looking for the SuperDrive for my specific model.

Not cheap, but this place sells them.

Thanks and your right...not cheap.

The Apple Store said it would be $150 which isn't bad compared to the price of that place. I've watch several videos and tears downs and it isn't that bad, other than finding a place to buy the SuperDrive for a deal.

I assume you didn't get Apple Care. If you did, it would be covered by warranty, and would of been cheaper then what you probably would have to pay now.

You could try putting a 'Want to Buy' post in the Marketplace.

A few members have pulled their SuperDrives out to add an extra hard drive so you might be lucky and persuade someone to sell.

No I didn't buy the Apple Care, it's almost like Apple should be in the "insurance/warranty" business as much as their stuff goes wrong.

I do often see Mac laptop super drives dying, but is seems pretty rare in the iMac. You just had bad luck I think.
