I've searched the forum. I've googled. I simply cannot use enough filtering and search arguments to weed out the chinese spam devices.

I like these quite a bit, but they're missing fast USB. They offer up to the 5Gb/s version, but I have a Sandisk Extreme Pro USB SSD that advertises (and is test-proven) 2,000MB/s read and write. I understand that M1 Macs have an issue with slow USB and it is often solved by using a Thunderbolt-to-USB hub. So, currently, I'm getting 800MB/s read and write with this drive and want to find a hub with faster USB to take advantage of it.

If I could find this exact hub with at least 10Gb/s USB, then I'd find that satisfactory!

Anybody have experience with such a thing?

Notice that this form-factor features bus-power. I'd also like SD slot, USB A and C connectors. Anything else is just bells and whistles.

You will NOT get 2000MB/sec out of a USB on a mac unless it is USB4/thunderbolt3. Macs support USB 3.1R2, which is 10 Gbits/sec. Sandisk extreme pro supports USB 3.2 G 2x2, which is 20Gbits/sec. No macs support this. If you get 800MB/sec, that is what a 10GBit/sec will do. So if you already get this with your hub, that is maxed out and you dont need another hub. You say the hub is 5Gbits/sec, but if you are getting 800MB/sec, then your hub is working at 10Gbits/sec

Is USB4 even really a thing? If I find a hub that claims “USB4” capability, then a gen2x2 device would be a different “flavor” and still be throttled to 10Gb/s?

Cal digits sells an USB4 element hub. But I cannot find anything that says it supports a Gen 2x2. I emailed them asking for clarification.

I received an email back - they do not support Gen 2x2. That means there are zero hubs for macs that support that protocol, and zero macs that support that protocol. The best you will do is 10Gbps or thunderbolt.

For best performance and extra ports, you’ll need something from owc or sonnet
