Finer stores everywhere.
I have a late 2008 aluminum MacBook with a 1TB WD Scorpio Blue internal drive. My current backup solution consists of an older 750GB WD MyBook with a weekly CCC backup of my most important files, a 1.5 TB WD Elements drive used with Time Machine, and another 1.5TB Elements drive used for a nightly CCC clone of my internal drive.

I recently bought a Rosewill RHB-330 USB hub used to connect these three drives and an old printer to the MacBook, but there were some issues.

First, the drives would routinely cause beachballs as they randomly woke up and went to sleep every few minutes. I tried turning off the "Sleep drives when possible" setting in Energy Saver, but it didn't completely eliminate the problem.

Second, the transfer speeds through the hub were about half of what they were when a drive was connected directly to the laptop, even when I had only one drive plugged into the hub.

Third, the hub failed after about 2 weeks, and now causes an error when I plug in or try to mount any drive.

So, does anyone know of a reliable USB hub, or of a better backup strategy that isn't too expensive?
