I got the dreaded dead screen bar problem, so now I can't use the bottom of my screen...

I've had the phone since September, and it is on AT&T but NOT activated through an iPhone plan or iTunes. What I plan to do now is virginize (it is unlocked on 1.1.4) and activate with a GoPhone account, then take it into the Apple Store for a repair.

The problem? I don't know how to virginize this thing. It's currently unlocked via iNdependence (that downgraded the modem firmware), and it's on 1.1.4. What do I need to do to get this back to 1.0.2 or so and activate it through iTunes just so I can take it in?

Or, should I just forget the whole thing and just erase it, take it in, and hope they replace it even though it isn't under warranty (technically)?

Thanks... I'm not too happy.

edit: Just saw that the social security number trick doesn't work anymore, any help with activating the phone without paying too much? I want to cancel the plan ASAP anyway, just so it costs the least to get this replaced.
