Seems like this would be the best forum to ask this. I have hundreds of family photos, some over 50 years old I would like to scan in order to have copies printed for distribution to family members.
I now have two HP c4280's (both "free" as a result of buying a MBP and an imac), the specs for scanning are below:
# Scanner type: Flatbed
# Scan resolution, enhanced: Up to 19200 dpi
# Scan resolution, hardware: Up to 1200 x 2400 dpi
# Bit depth: 48-bit
# Levels of grayscale: 256
Will this be enough for me to get good scans of photos that can than be sent to a photo lab for printing, or in some cases repair/restoration ?(some are torn).
Or would I be better off just selling these two, and getting a dedicated scanner like the Canon CS8800F Color Image Scanner
# Color Depth: 48-bit color
# Maximum horizontal resolution: 4800
# vertical_resolution: 9600
