Hey folks, I'm at my wits end here. I need some sizing help for choosing between iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.
I went from an iPhone 4S to a 6, three years ago, and I was excited about the jump in size. I love my iPhone 6, but recently, the size of the screen now feels so cramped. But yet when I recently held an iPhone 7 Plus in my hands, the size of it felt way too big.
I went to the Apple store last week in preparation for the iPhone 8 pre-order, and held a 7 Plus in my hands and up to my ear (as if I was making a call). The 7 Plus felt HUGE to me, especially when holding up to my ear to make a call. I loved everything about it, but the bigger size over the 7. I ended up pre-ordering the iPhone 8, but now had second thoughts and canceled that pre-order and then set up a pre-order for the iPhone 8 Plus. Now I'm having second thoughts on that.
Here's what I mostly use my iPhone for:
- Texting, but I text with two hands for the majority of the time.
- Web-browsing. This is a big one. I read the news on my iPhone. I read articles I find from Facebook on my iPhone. I do a TON of web-browsing on my iPhone.
- Take photos. I have over 5,000 photos from my iPhone that I haven't deleted yet. It's literally my primary camera at this point.
- Talk on the phone. This is maybe 20% of my use from the iPhone?
- Listening to music (spotify, etc).
- Gaming. Maybe one or two apps.
- Emails. Not a ton, but a fair amount.
A few other things crossed my mind.
- My wife and I are starting a family soon. Would a Plus sized iPhone be better for longer battery life/better camera for capturing those precious baby moments, etc?
- How much of a hindrance will the size be? A "regular sized" iPhone is feeling a LITTLE too SMALL to me at this point, but I'm nervous that a "plus sized" iPhone will feel a LITTLE too BIG if I were to buy one.
- Is the wave of smartphones now reversing and going back to a regular size? Is this what we're seeing with the iPhone X.
- I am generally safe with my iPhones, never had a cracked screen. Is a plus size really too unwieldy?
- What is the real benefit for using a Plus vs. a Regular iPhone?
ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS, about a "regular iPhone feeling too small" but being really scared about "the plus sized iPhone being too big?"
WHAT SHOULD I DO? Will I get used to the larger size of the iPhone PLUS? I am also the type of person that doesn't upgrade an iPhone every year, maybe every 3-4, so the next one I have I'll use for a while, but also will ride out any trends in the industry (screen size going back to getting smaller, etc.)
Any advice, particularly from those who have experience this issue, would be much appreciated!
