First off I'm not a fanboy of anything, not sure I even exactly know what that term means... I'm a 51 year old 3GS owner thinking of changing phones. Mostly because my wife's sprint contract is up and it's time to get her a smart phone. If I choose to go i4, I'm going to get a new one for myself as well so we can take advantage of the facetime feature, nice when I travel.
I'm not the least bit concerned about the death grip issue as I wouldn't walk of the store without a case for it in the first place and I use bluetooth exclusively so I don't hold it when I talk either. Same with the proximity issue I've read about on here, it's a non-issue to me.
The quandary I have is the signal strength for phone calls. Since the fix for the bars with 4.1, I consistently have 1 bar when the phone sits on my desk at home. I've missed many calls when the phone sits on my desk at work and suddenly a voice mail will appear.
I've looked at the droid x and was not impressed enough to walk out with one or two of them. Just looked cheap to me and that operating system is, well, odd. If it can successfully act as a phone I suppose I could get used to it. It doesn't allow me to search the web while I'm on a call and that is a feature I like to use with the iphone. It does allow me to use the advantages of bluetooth when listening to music and use my bluetooth headphones to skip to the next song. I was hoping that Apple fixed that with the 4 but I've read they didn't.
So is the reception on the 4 better than the 3gs? Is the unit faster on 3GS as my 3gs speedtests have been 250kbps upload and 50kbps download, horrid at best. Wifi works great but I'm not always near a hotspot.
I'm sure some of your are much more in-tune with this new technology than I am and I'd be grateful for some valued advice.
