Anyone? I know there's a few threads on this topic already but there doesn't seem to be many people who have tried removing this part. My main concern is that removing it might do some long term damage. I mean, it must be there for a reason right?

Not sure how many people have experienced the clicking noise replicated in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJmpervXe9M but I came across this "fix": http://tenonedesign.com/blog/fix-your-macbook-pro-like-a-champ/ and I was wondering if it has worked for anybody? It looks simple enough to do myself but it sounds pretty scary. What do you guys think? The clicking is driving me nuts!

I removed it 3 weeks ago = no more annoying noise. But I had to get it back inside, as I'm going to have my MacBook Pro repaired (because of another issue). Strangely, since I've put it back in, I have had no problems with the noise whatsoever. Hopefully, it will not come back.
