Seriously considering making the switch, currently using Dell 5100 Inspiron which is, although having been fairly reliable and still runs smoothly, is definitely showing signs of ageing, when it comes to power-hungry applications, such as audio-production and gaming. The MacBook Pro looks like a fairly future-proof candidate. From using my friends PowerBooks, I've been very impressed by the design and the operating system just looks beautiful.
I've arrived at the crossroads of buying complete new notebook based system. My first concern with Apple, was the fact I couldn't use some vital software such as Sound Forge amongst other various and obscure windows based programes. However, the promise of either duel-booting, or using XP/Vista similtainiously is attractive - anyone care to comment on this? How do they think that XP will run, in comparison to other systems that were designed exclusively for XP or Windows based OS?
Furthermore, perhaps my main concern is with gaming. I've accepted the fact, that after three years my laptop just cannot sustain modern games - even when I first purchased it, it was not an exactly state of the art machine. My point being, that if I'm going to spend another vast amount of money on a new system, I'd quite like that money to be buying me the choice of the latest games, as well as the raw CPU processing power that applications of most significance will soon take advantage of, such as Logic 7.0 and Ableton 6.0. How does the MacBook Pro measure up on the gaming front? How future-proof (considering it is non-upgradable) is the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600?
One last thing, I've noticed some discontent about certain teething problems with the MacBook Pro - have these been sorted out yet? Such as the screen flickers and the 'whining' in particular.
Many thanks
