if it matters i own quite a few games on steam such as doom 3 BFG and quite a few others

Probably crush your Air but Doom 3 like you've never seen before... Base game should play, but you need to keep the Air cool or it will throttle down. You will also likely need a new game engine, follow the link below. Lift up the rear and use a cheap USB powered fan that should work.

What games do you like to play? here's a good source for game engines for the Mac for older games. Most you need to own, some are fully free such as the Marathon series. Not as graphically intense as Doom 3, but still a great play if into FPS. Your limitation is RAM as 4GB is low by any standards, equally if smart no reason why you cant have fun :)

I have an Acer tablet PC with just 4GB RAM and I game on that with ease. Just about to load the remastered Quake with a new game engine which will make it playable. My go to traveller is a 13" M1 MBP, while significantly more powerful it too brings distinct challenges for gaming being ARM based. Have enough games onboard that run natively to keep me occupied for a good while. The one exception is Outlast as that runs via emulation.

cool ill give it a try
If you’ve never experienced cloud gaming before you can try it free on xbox.com/play

You can only play fortnight for free, but it gives a free experience of cloud gaming.

GeForce Now is quite a bit better visually though.

+1 that is what I do, play games like call of duty, Microsoft Flight Simulator, NHL, etc. All in the cloud with a PS4 controller. Works really well.

Doom 3 BFG should go, but better check through the Porting Kit or OpenGL mode. I also recommend trying old RPGs like Baldur’s Gate or OpenTTD strategies - they are easy to use and work well on weak Mac.

I have started playing Assassins Creed Shadows on the Ubisoft Gamepass... or whatever it is called. Lots out criticism of the game before hand about the black character in it not being accurate. I am no historian so can't comment on that. What I can comment on is this is the first fun Assassins Creed game I have played since Black Flag. They have all gone downhill since that masterpiece. Voice acting is still so so in this game. The world looks incredible though can be very frustrating if you decided to not follow the path. They have dense bushes and foliage everywhere. Can be very annoying. The two characters play very different which adds some fun. One is a big brawler, powerful and strong but not quick for climbing around and does not have that assassins creed view thing where you can see through walls and see people. The Asian character is nimble and quick and ninja like. Climbs up buildings quick and is my favorite character to play. It can be frustrating finding what you are supposed to do though.

If you still have a windows PC, you can use Steam's Remote Play to actually play any game in your library as long as Steam is running on both machines. The host machine actually is running the game, so as long as you have a decent internet connection you should be able to play any title in your library. Since the games are hosted on the other device, you don't have to fill up the SSD on your Mac.
