Hey all. This is long, I am just thinking out loud so, bare with me :)

Android user here. Pretty much an ex windows user too. I ended up getting a 13" MBP earlier this year, upgraded to a 15" MBP quickly after, even adding more ram and installing an SSD. A while back my bulky PC broke and I really don't miss it. My 15" MBP works great and if need be, parallels is available and I have a full version of windows 8 that I have not opened.

Lately I have become frustrated with my android devices, don't get me wrong, I like my nexus 7 and galaxy s3, but there are some issues that are really getting to me.

One, issue is the windows driver issues I have had with some android devices. Another is the shear amount of stuff available for iDevices that I would like to do, but android does not have in place. One issue that I have been having recently is when it comes down to photography.

While most of the time it is fine to shoot some images with my 5DmkII and bring them home and run through the computer there are times when I want to push a photo out to social media (twitter / g+ etc) as soon as possible. Getting photos from my camera is a problem. For some reason android locks out the SD card slot and some times a camera will connect on one device and not the other.

This afternoon, I tried an eye-fi card and that was less then ideal. My camera I was using at the time, one I often have on me, a g12, has a bit of an known issue with the card, it will shut the wifi off and restart. I guess my phone see's this connection drop then favors another connection (home or other memorized connection) and leaves the eye-fi card hanging and me messing with settings.

Utter mess.

One of my other hobbies is storm chasing. This is where the social media and getting photos out as soon as possible comes in.

A card reader may or may not work in the device. It is a bit of pain to deal with, so at this point I am ready to find something else. There seems to be no "standard" as to what works with the android device and what I want to do.

At one time, I bought the 1st gen ipad for an experiment, at the time, it did not suit me, but I did get a camera connection kit, I was able to pull images off the card pretty quickly, select the ones I want and import them.

I am sure the newer gen ipads will do this too, albeit with a lightning to 30 pin adapter, which cost less then this eye-fi card that don't work as smooth as I hoped.

Now, I am sitting here wondering if I want to just slowly move over to apple. I guess there is no reason to chose one over the other, no reason why I can't use both platforms. I am seriously thinking about instead of replacing my desktop, (with a possible mac mini) perhaps use my laptop as the main computer and invest in this ecosystem.

So, if I was to go for an ipad which one is right for me?
Being a storm chaser (at times) and photographer (not a pro) and have times when I want to push out a photo as soon as I can, I suspect the LTE version of the ipad should work on month to month basis.

The next question will be size. Again, I am thinking the 4th gen ipad with retina (though it is a bit not as portable as the mini) for higher resolution pixel peeping (okay, I don't do that) and radar image. I suspect a higher resolution display would be a plus for the radar image. I use pykl for android, but a long time ago back in my ipod and 1st gen ipad days, I had bought radarscope, I am sure it is still in the cloud.

The next question would be internal storage. Once again, I suspect, being a photographer, more storage = better.

But I wonder if the 829.99 price tag for a windows desktop replacement and to do a couple things out in the field not that often? But I realize that an ipad could be considered as a extension of my MBP outside the house. Or when I did not feel like wasting the battery in my MBP.

Thoughts?
