I've read the many how-to's spread throughout the internet on downgrading iOS 5 to 4.X and for some reason I am not able to. I cannot use the Xcode method for reasons you can guess but when trying the method using the alt+restore and selecting my 4.2.8 ipsw, iTunes throws an error, I keep receiving error 1601 when using DFU mode. I've tried on all 3 versions of the iTunes 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 with no luck either way. I've even loaded up my Windows XP vm and tried with a fresh installation of iTunes 10.3 with no luck. Can anyone provide any insight?
