Hello there
I could use some help, I've tried asking some things in a variety to help me out but I feel like I can't get to the bottom of what I would like to do.
I have both a iMac and a Macbook Air.
I have lots of space on the iMac and would like to keep original copies of all my photos (be they from the air or iPhone or my actual camera) on that computer.
Question 1
To do so I believe I need to select "download originals" to the iMac correct?
When it come to Macbook Air I obviously don't have enough room to "download originals" on it. So I have selected Optimize Mac Storage.
Question 2
This option says "originals will also be stored on this mac if you have enough storage space". Does that mean Photos will constantly be trying to fill up my Macbook Air with original versions of my photos?
Question 3
I'm asking question 2 because when I open photos on my Macbook Air everything is fine, but within the first update it says "photos has stopped updating because your file is full" If not label or edit I'd like to be able to at least arrange my photos while on the Macbook Air (i.e. creates files and what not, stuff that should not need the optimized version) Is this not possible?
Question 4
In an ideal world, if I am on vacation I would like to upload the photos from my camera to my Macbook Air(which in the past has essentially been a backup hard drive for my photos while away in case I lose my camera) My Macbook Air should have enough space so I can upload photos from my vacation(it always has in the past). However because of the problem with Question 3 my hard drive is always filling up now. Is there anyway to avoid this?
Question 5
The Macbook Air is with me a lot, i would love to be able to edit my photos on it, but I think the only option is to carry an external drive to "download the originals"to is. Am I correct?
Question 6
Slightly less than a mac specific question but I've seen they now have external "cloud" hard drives. Could this in theory work? Obviously I would need to be connected to wifi. But in theory could I have a "cloud" hard drive that could be accessed by my iMac at home and my Macbook Air while travelling(again assuming wifi connected) Thereby I have one hard drive(instead of 2 for each separate computer). Would this work? Are these things reliable? IS the upload/download speed reasonable? I recognize the later is all relative to the device itself and the connection speed, but I'm just talking generally. This would be less appealing of an option if everything lagged when I did it.
Long question I know but Ive been trying to get this sorted since photos came out and can't seem to get things setup quite right.
Thanks for the help in advance
Cheers
