Need some info for 2g iphone. Updating, unlocking.

I have a jailbroken 2g 8gb Iphone on fw 3.1. I used blackrain to jailbreak it. I have 2 questions.

1) Should i update to 3.1.2 and how?

2) After i update can i unlock it and how?

I read that if jailbreaking with blackrain, you lose your unlocking privileges.

Also, not sure if this matters, but my modem firmware is 04.05.04_G. I also read on iclarified that only certain basebands can be unlocked.

I do not want to lose all my settings and apps. it is a pain to go to cydia and update sources.

If i don't update, what should i use to unlock it? I haven't seen any turorials on iclarified, only for mac OS. I have windows vista. Thank you.

Never mind im just going to do a restore with 3.1.2 jailbreak with blackrain and use bootneuter to unlock.
