I'm throwing around a couple ideas in my head as to my future setup that I want to have by next september:

These are the things I'm looking to achieve in order of importance:
(1) Get a newer computer
(2) Have a smaller notebook for school
(3) Have access to larger screen at home
(4) Have a central "always on" computer for general computing and media server

These are my issue:
(1) My fiance will not let me spend a lot of money without complaining about it.

My strengths:
(1) I'm pretty good at convincing her of things if I have good arguments and annoy her enough

Now down to business----
I currently own a 2.16 Ghz MBP that is in some serious need of a HDD upgrade. It still has one year of AppleCare.

My options:
(a) Keep MBP, buy a monitor and keyboard and mouse, upgrade HDD and buy an new MB for notebook and use MBP as desktop media server
Total estimated cost: $2347.00 (achieves all agendas but costly)

(b) Sell MBP, buy new MB and keyboard and mouse.
Cost: $1575-$1800 (achieves all agendas but central media center)

(c) Sell MBP, buy new MB and new iMac
Cost: $2475-1700 (achieves all agendas plus get 2 new computers--but very costly)

(d) keep MBP but don't upgrade or buy monitor and buy new MB
Cost: $1907 (achieves some agendas)

Please give me some input. Thanks.
