Need some sim card help

I have a Verizon Iphone 5, which, I guess has a sim card that works just on Verizon. I am intrigued with the HTC One, or DLX PLus, or whatever variant HTC will send to Verizon. I would like to take the sim card out of the IP5, keep my phone number and use it in the HTC one type on Verizon. Will this work and will I continue to pay for just one data plan? I know this puts the IP5 on the shelf for awhile. If I don't like the HTC one type, and can't stand android again, I should be able to switch the sim card back and continue with IOS, right?Thanks.
