Need to burn game dvds

I am taking my macbook pro to work with me and I want to bring copies of the game dvds instead of the originals. I work on fishing boats in Alaska and anything I bring with me might get damaged (including my macbook pro). Is it just like burning protected movie dvds? Are there any free options?
