my MacBooks ability to save files and chat logs etc came back to bite me in the ass tonight. May girlfriend was going through my laptop (we share it as a central media machine because it I hooked up to a 2T hard drive for our music and movies) looking for something and one of the keywords she searched for turned up a hit in a bunch of old chats with my ex lol. Of course it was stuff that she didn't want to see etc so I just need to reformat this thing and start with a clean slate. I thought I had deleted everything but I was wrong. All of my files that I/we need are already on the External so I just need to nuke this thing and install a fresh os

Hold CMD and R on startup to boot into OS X Utilities. Open Disk Utility and format Macintosh HD, then close Disk Utility and select Reinstall OS X.
