Sorry if someone has already asked this question. If so, please direct me to the link.
Also, am not that good with "Mac technicals" (am a Windows person).

My daughter has a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012, MacOS Sierra 10.12.3). Whenever I turn on the MacBook, either iPhoto or iMessage opens automatically. The iMessage always asks me to log into my account. She's too young to use iMessage and us parents both have iPhones for such.

Please, how can I disable both iPhoto and iMessage from the MacBook so whenever the MacBook is opened, it opens straight to the desktop?

I assume you've quit (CMD+Q) the app, not just clicked the red 'x' button, and unticked the 'Reopen windows when logging back in' option when you turn off the Mac?

Also, you've checked System Prefs. > Users > [Your daughter] > Login items?

It's unusual for Photos to be opening at login, for sure.
